Huffington Post Popular News: Short Bouts Of Physical Activity Can Help You Meet Exercise Guidelines, Study Shows

You don't have to be a gym rat to get your daily exercise, according to a new study.

The findings, published in the American Journal of Health Promotion, show that small bouts of physical activity throughout the day -- that which comes from activities like raking the leaves, mowing the lawn or taking the stairs -- count as exercise just as much as designating a period of time to work out at a gym.

"Our results suggest that engaging in an active lifestyle approach, compared to a structured exercise approach, may be just as beneficial in improving various health outcomes," study researcher Paul Loprinzi, an assistant professor at Bellarmine University who conducted the research while at Oregon State University, said in a statement. "We encourage people to seek out opportunities to be active when the choice is available. For example, rather than sitting while talking on the phone, use this opportunity to get in some activity by pacing around while talking."

Huffington Post Popular News: Henry Barbour On Climate Change: There Are 'Two Sides To Every Issue'

Henry Barbour, one of five Republicans tasked with rethinking GOP strategy following the 2012 elections, refused to say if climate change is one of the areas his party should address, stating that "there's certainly two sides to every issue."

During a Thursday appearance on NPR's On Point to discuss the Republican Party's post-election regrouping, Barbour fielded a question from a caller who lamented that Republicans have largely ignored climate change, often "denying that this is a problem."

"Well, with the Republican Party what it has to be about is fixing problems," Barbour, a Mississippi Republican National Committee member, responded. "Whether it's dealing with the environment or whether its dealing with security, education, or spending, or whatever it is."

"The 2013 public release of the files of clergy who were subject of the 2007 global settlement concludes a sad and shameful chapter in the history of our local church," the archdiocese said in a statement.

Huffington Post Popular News: Joe Biden: Gun Laws Won't 'Guarantee' End To Mass Shootings

WASHINGTON — Curbing guns can't ensure an end to mass slayings like December's killings of 20 first-graders in Newtown, Conn., but it will reduce firearm deaths, Vice President Joe Biden said Thursday.

"Nothing we're going to do is going to fundamentally alter or eliminate the possibility of another mass shooting or guarantee that we will bring gun deaths down to 1,000 a year from what it is now," Biden told reporters.

Biden said lawmakers can take steps "that have virtually zero impact on your Second Amendment right to own a weapon for both self-defense and recreation but can save some lives." Doing that, he said, "seems to be a no-brainer."
