While Washington was obsessing Wednesday over whether or not the oh-so-intimidating Gene Sperling had threatened Bob Woodward over his deeply misguided take on the budget sequester, another veteran Democratic number-cruncher skated by: The Senate confirmed Jack Lew to be secretary of the Treasury, by a vote of 71 to 26.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Joe Harris scored a career-high 36 points and Virginia celebrated the 11-year anniversary of its last victory over a top 5 team by doing it again, beating No. 3 Duke 73-68 on Thursday night.
Akil Mitchell added 19 points and 12 rebounds as he and Harris outplayed Duke's top twosome of Seth Curry and Mason Plumlee, giving Virginia (20-8, 10-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) its 16th consecutive victory at home. It came 11 years to the day since an 87-84 victory, also against No. 3 Duke.
WELLINGTON, New Zealand -- The U.S. has won a court appeal in its battle to extradite Internet entrepreneur Kim Dotcom from New Zealand.
A New Zealand appeals court Friday overturned an earlier ruling that would have allowed Dotcom broad access to the evidence against him at the time of his August extradition hearing. The appeals court ruled that extensive disclosure would bog down the process and that a summary of the U.S. case would suffice.
ST. LOUIS -- Jonathan Toews scored twice, and Ray Emery and Corey Crawford combined on a shutout as the Chicago Blackhawks extended their NHL-record season-opening points streak to 20 games with a 3-0 win over the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night.
Andrew Shaw also scored for Chicago, which was coming off a 6-0-1 homestand and improved to 9-0-2 on the road. The Blackhawks, who have won seven in a row overall, have earned 37 out of a possible 40 points this season with a 17-0-3 start.

Although she married into the family, at this point, she is the family and all decisions go through her. According to her estranged husband, she's changed and is holding onto a private heartache from years ago."
Bush's character will be the blue-collar McCoy family's "highest hope and eldest sibling."

RICHMOND, Va. — Former vice presidential adviser I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby is among more than 1,000 felons whose voting rights were restored in the past year by Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, according to a report to the General Assembly.
Libby's name is listed in the Feb. 23 report on pardons, commutations, reprieves and other forms of clemency the Republican governor is required to submit annually. Without elaboration, the report says Libby's civil rights were restored Nov. 1, 2012.
Emma Watson may get fit for a glass slipper after all. Four years after Watson was loosely attached to star in a musical version of the classic fairy tale "Cinderella" for Marilyn Manson (file under: things that were real), Variety reports that Watson is in "very early talks" to play the role in a new film from Kenneth Branagh. Cate Blanchett would play Watson's evil stepmother.
Fairy tale adaptations were all the rage after Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" exploded at the box office in 2010 (the film earned over $1 billion worldwide), but the recent adaptations have been hit and miss. Released last summer, "Snow White and the Huntsman" was a big success (nearly $400 million in global ticket sales), but other films like "Mirror Mirror" (based on Snow White) and "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters" have failed to connect. "Jack the Giant Slayer," a new take on "Jack and the Beanstalk," is out Friday via Warner Bros., but the film is not tracking to earn much more than $30 million on opening weekend, a pittance compared to its massive budget.
Watson has kept very busy since playing Hermione in the "Harry Potter" franchise. She was praised last year for her role in "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" and stars next in "The Bling Ring" from director Sofia Coppola. Watson also filmed a role for Darren Aronofsky's "Noah" (due in 2014) and is attached to play the co-title character in "Beauty and the Beast" for director Guillermo del Toro. That film would shoot this year.
Accused murderer Jodi Arias underwent more fiery cross-examination Thursday, with Maricopa County prosecutor Juan Martinez demanding to know if she was crying when she shot, stabbed and cut the throat of her ex-boyfriend.
Arias, 32, sobbed as the prosecutor showed her a picture of Travis Alexander's crumpled body. Martinez, grilling Arias for a fourth day of cross-examination, showed no sympathy.
"Were you crying while you were shooting him?" Martinez asked.
Better late than never?
While there have been many, many Harlem Shake videos uploaded to YouTube, none of them featured LeBron James and the Miami heat.
