Huffington Post Popular News: Deion Branch Says Aaron Hernandez 'Is A Great Guy,' Matt Light Does Not Agree

Aaron Hernandez has at least one former teammate willing to speak fondly of him in public. Following a week in which the New England Patriots distanced themselves from the tight end, Deion Branch offered some rare supportive words, calling Hernandez "my guy" and "a great kid."

“Aaron is a great guy and a great friend of mine and a great teammate,” the former Patriots wide receiver told The Albany Herald on Saturday. “I love him to death, and it was shocking to hear his name involved in this situation. I truly hope and pray he doesn’t have any dealings with it.”

Branch's shock and hope seem at odds with actions from the Patriots since Hernandez was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd. Less than two hours after Hernandez was arrested on Monday, the Patriots released Hernandez. The 23-year-old tight end who joined the Patriots in 2010 out of the University of Florida was subsequently charged with murder and weapons counts at his arraignment. Several days later, the team announced a jersey exchange in which fans could turn in certain Hernandez jerseys to the official team store and receive another player's jersey in return.

RIO DE JANEIRO — More than 5,000 anti-government protesters marched Sunday near the Maracana football stadium before a major international match, venting their anger about the billions of dollars the Brazilian government is spending on major sporting events rather than public services.

Though smaller in size, the march was the latest in a wave of protests that has spread across this continent-sized country in recent weeks. Many are calling the protest movement the biggest seen here in decades, with more than 1 million people having taken to the streets nationwide on just the night of June 20.

Huffington Post Popular News: Rachel Jeantel, Trayvon Martin's Friend, May Have Helped And Hurt George Zimmerman's Defense

As witness after witness took to the stand this week in the George Zimmerman trial, each individual put a long-awaited face and name to the tragic story that has enthralled the nation for over a year. But one has stood out -- Rachel Jeantel , the young woman who was on the phone with Trayvon Martin moments before he was shot and killed by defendant George Zimmerman.

The 19-year-old could not have anticipated that day how she would come to represent the many tensions within the case, the trial and the larger intersections of race, class and law enforcement in the U.S. As Trayvon Martin's friend, the prosecution looked to her to tell his story, and as the opposing side's witness, the defense hoped she would exhibit a lack of credibility that would work in Zimmerman's favor.

Experts say that Jeantel's testimony was a labyrinth of cultural nuances that may be difficult for the primarily white jury to understand. But others feel that sympathy for the young woman's age and raw demeanor -- and also the defense's underestimation of the jury's empathy for her -- may be key to the prosecution's success.

Huffington Post Popular News: When Will 'Mad Men' End?

Since the very beginning of Mad Men, Don Draper has seemed doomed. From the show's opening-credit sequence, with a silhouetted suit falling helplessly from the Madison Avenue skyline, to this year's season premiere, which featured Don delving into a copy of Dante's Inferno, the future always seemed bleak for our dapper anti-hero.

Oblivious to the fact that he's always on the wrong side of history, Don began to wither. What seemed cool about him in the beginning -- his afternoon drinks and serial womanizing -- has devolved to pathetic.
