The apparent murder-suicide involving Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher rocked the NFL on Saturday morning. According to police, Belcher fatally shot his girlfriend at a residence and then drove to the Chiefs' facility and took his own life.
Belcher, 25, had played for the Chiefs for four years and participated in every game during that span. According to the Associated Press, police spokesman Darin Snapp said that Belcher thanked Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli and Romeo Crennel for what they had done for him before committing shooting himself outside the team's practice facilities.
Tony Richardson, a fullback who played for Kansas City for 11 seasons, told USA Today that he was shocked by the news.
