Huffington Post Popular News: Dale Earnhardt Jr. Sets Track Record At Kentucky Speedway, Wins Pole For Quaker State 400

The clouds that brought the rains that washed out the Quaker State 400 on Saturday night may have helped Dale Earnhardt Jr. set a track record during qualifying for the NASCAR Sprint Cup race on Friday.

In his Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, Earnhardt won the pole on Friday at 183.636 miles per hour, according to AutoWeek. Earnhardt's record-setting trip made him one of several Sprint Cup drivers who broke the previous track record of 181.818 mph. That mark was set by Jimmie Johnson last year.

"I thought we had a good car in practice," Earnhardt said after his record-setting run, via The Associated Press, "and we got some cloud cover. That gave us an opportunity to run a good lap."
