Last year, the Ocean Conservancy's coastal clean-up project collected more than 3.5 million pounds of trash from America's beaches in one day.
For one artist and educator, the severity of America's marine debris problem was too much. "In the last 10 years," Angela Pozzi writes on her website, WashedAshore.org, "I have seen the pristine Oregon beaches of my childhood become cluttered with plastic pollution. My response to this reality has been through mixed media sculptures."
